Introducing Last Boss
Last Boss is foremost, a blog. But of course, you’re likely wondering, what exactly is Last Boss, about? Well, that’s what this post is for, dear reader.
Last Boss is about celebrating video games, if you examine the menu bar in the upper right you’ll see several categories, all of which posts on Last Boss cover.
Features: Features are stories of note so to speak, often lengthier than the average Last Boss publication. Features are signified as such based on length, or, as this post is, particular content (This is a feature because it explains what this blog is for!)
European Extreme: The goal of European Extreme is to celebrate the most difficult spanning all eras. Have an old NES classic that caused you to weep so bitterly you just need to tell someone about it? That’s just what European Extreme is for. It’s encouraged to include not only personal tales of woe or victory over the difficult game, but to make efforts at analysis of game mechanic and level design and perhaps even offer some tips, if you’re into that sort of thing.
Reviews: Reviews are just what the name implies, video game reviews. Just as the current layout of the blog is quite airy and free, the Last Boss review philosophy is the same. At the moment, we have no set system for reviewing games—the reviewer reviews how he wishes, in whatever method he thinks best communicates his opinion of the game, whether it be a brief and a number score or a multi-paragraphed criticism.
Essays: The essay post is, put simply, any sort of thought surrounding video games. What exactly falls into the essay category? Think Minecraft’s degree of freedom is something that should be present more often in other genres and have an argument for it? That’s an essay my friend. Similarly, absolutely hate the freedom Minecraft enables? Same deal. More or less, if you have interesting arguments/thoughts about the video game industry on the whole that don’t fall into any of the other categories, they will wind up here.
Finally, this site is in it’s infant stage, we’ll call it Last Boss 1.0. Hopefully this little blog project develops overtime.
